Climate Emergency Forum Team to Attend COP29 in Baku

Four key members of the Climate Emergency Forum (CEF) team are set to attend the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) in Baku, Azerbaijan, from November 11 to 22, 2024. Paul Beckwith, Herb Simmens, Heidi Brault, and Charles Gregoire will represent the organization at this crucial climate summit, bringing their diverse expertise and passionate advocacy to the global stage. Their presence at COP29 underscores CEF’s commitment to advancing urgent climate action and fostering public understanding of the climate crisis.

The CEF team’s primary focus during COP29 will be to conduct three press conferences in the NGO Press Conference Room 2, located in Area C of the conference venue. These press conferences will serve as platforms for the team to share their insights, analysis, and concerns regarding the ongoing climate negotiations and their implications for global climate action. The team plans to leverage these opportunities to highlight critical issues, present scientific evidence, and advocate for more ambitious climate policies.

In addition to their press conferences, the CEF representatives will be actively engaging with other attendees and conducting interviews with various climate personalities they encounter at the conference. This approach will allow them to gather diverse perspectives from key figures in the climate community, including scientists, policymakers, activists, and other stakeholders. These interviews will provide valuable content for CEF’s audience, offering insider views on the progress of negotiations and the challenges facing global climate action.

Paul Beckwith, a Climate System Scientist, Herb Simmens, a climate policy expert, Heidi Brault, CEF’s Executive Director, and Charles Gregoire, Deputy Executive Director, will combine their expertise to provide comprehensive coverage of the event. Their collective knowledge spans climate science, policy, advocacy, and communication, enabling them to offer nuanced insights into the complex discussions taking place at COP29.

Complementing the on-site team, Dr. Peter Carter, a key member of CEF, will be closely monitoring the negotiations from home using his virtual badge. This arrangement allows Dr. Carter to attend events remotely and provide additional expert analysis. His virtual participation enhances CEF’s coverage, ensuring that the team can engage with an even broader range of sessions and discussions. The combination of on-site presence and virtual participation demonstrates CEF’s commitment to providing thorough, multi-faceted reporting on this critical climate summit.

In alignment with our commitment to collaboration, CEF proudly collaborates with the International Society for Ecological Economics (ISEE) that kindly enable us to participate at these UNFCCC COP events.
